Bus/Carpool Lanes Phase 1 Project


DESCRIPTION

This project (Phase 1) will create approximately 18.8 miles of bus/carpool lanes on I-5 in the Sacramento area, from 0.7 miles north of South Reach Beach Lake Bridge 24-347 to Route 50. Phase 2 will be designed and constructed as a separate project at a later date and will construct approximately 6.8 miles of bus/carpool lanes from 0.2 mile south of Beach Lake Bridge 24-262 to 0.7 mile north of South Reach Beach Lake Bridge 24-347. One environmental document will cover the Phase 1 and Phase 2 project limits.

PROJECT BENEFITS

• Improve traffic operations by reducing congestion and travel time,
• Provide more reliable peak period travel times for commuters, transit agencies and businesses,
• Improve efficiency of regional and interregional trips, and
• Provide travel time incentives for commuters to use carpools, vanpools or buses in peak travel periods

Local - $117.4 million
State - $2 million
Federal - $10.5 million
Estimated Total Project Cost - $130 million
