I-8 Traffic Switch Between Sidewinder and Ogilby Roads: Westbound I-8 Ramps Closed at Ogilby Road
EL CENTRO, Calif. — Caltrans reported that crews reduced traffic to a single lane on westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) between Sidewinder Road and approximately one mile west of Ogilby Road earlier today. Both travel directions have been switched to the I-8 eastbound lanes divided by k-rail. In addition, the westbound on- and off-ramps at Ogilby Road (Exit 159) are closed to traffic. Signs have been placed to alert motorists to the ramp closures and alternate routes.
- Detour Ogilby Road to Westbound I-8: Motorists may access eastbound I-8 from Ogilby Road and exit Sidewinder Road to access westbound I-8.
- Detour Westbound I-8 to Ogilby Road: Motorists may proceed westbound I-8 past Ogilby Road and exit at Grays Well Road and access eastbound I-8 to Ogilby Road.
The new configuration is expected to remain in place until the end of the year. Traffic impacts include a reduced speed limit through the construction area and possible travel delays.
A bike shuttle at Ogilby Road is available 7 a.m. to noon, seven days a week by calling (760) 337-1759 at least one hour in advance. For on-line reservations at least one day in advance, go to www.dot.ca.gov/d11/projects/update8/.
The I-8 Corridor is a major pavement rehabilitation project consisting of five segments that will construct Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) along 48 miles on Interstate 8 in Imperial County. The work will result in a long-lasting superior roadway, capable of withstanding the heaviest traffic loads. Construction began in 2016 and will be completed by 2019.
