Traffic Conditions on State Route 94
SAN DIEGO—East County motorists on State Route 94 (SR-94) in Jamul and surrounding areas experienced extreme traffic congestion on Monday during the Jamul Indian Village (JIV) grand opening of its gaming facility. Traffic congestion escalated when the casino parking structure filled to capacity and could not accommodate additional visitors.
To help alleviate congestion when the parking structure is full, the JIV will activate signs reading CASINO AT CAPACITY/LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY on eastbound SR-94 ahead of the SR-94/SR-54 intersection. The signs are intended to alert patrons to take eastbound SR-54 and turn around at the next legal turning point.
Caltrans has worked with emergency services, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), CAL FIRE, San Diego County and local schools to ensure continued access.
Motorists are reminded to obey all traffic laws and regulatory signs. Vehicles illegally parked on the side of SR-94 will be towed.
Caltrans continues to monitor the area. Traffic congestion is expected to reduce as the novelty of the new facility calms down.
