Weekend Closures on I-8/Dogwood Road
New Bridge Lanes Open Monday
EL CENTRO, Calif.—Caltrans will close the Interstate I (I-8) on- and off-ramps at Dogwood Road beginning tonight at 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. on Monday as part of the I-8 Dogwood Road Interchange Project. Northbound and southbound Dogwood Road between Danenberg and Ross roads will also be closed.
Detour signs are placed to direct eastbound and westbound I-8 motorists to take State Route 86 (SR-86)/4th Street north to Ross Road, and east to Dogwood Road or south to Danenberg Road and then east back to Dogwood Road.
Southbound traffic on Dogwood Road will be detoured west on Ross Road to SR-86/4th Street, then south to Danenberg Road and east to Dogwood Road.
Northbound traffic on Dogwood Road will be detoured west on Danenberg Road to SR-86/4th Street, then north to Ross Road and east to Dogwood Road.
The closures are needed to complete paving on both sides of the Dogwood Bridge overcrossing and on the four loop ramps. Crews will place new concrete barrier on the east side of the bridge to install bridge rail and finish the new loop ramp.
Five newly paved lanes on the Dogwood Bridge 0vercrossing will open on Monday.
Once completed, the bridge overcrossing will be widened from two to six lanes, including two turning lanes. Widened ramps and newly installed signals will help reduce congestion leading to the busy commercial hub in the region. The bridge is expected to be fully open by mid-November.
