Otay Mesa Road Overnight Closure This Week
SAN DIEGO—Both directions of Otay Mesa Road will be closed between La Media Road and Sanyo Avenue from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. Caltrans crews will be adjusting temporary support structures on the bridge being constructed over Otay Mesa Road.
Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure, as follows:
- Westbound traffic will be detoured south onto Sanyo Avenue to Airway Road to La Media Road and west onto Otay Mesa Road.
- Eastbound travelers will use the same detour route, but in the opposite direction.
Access to State Route 125 (SR-125) – also known as the South Bay Expressway – will remain open to users.
The bridge under construction is part of an interchange that will carry SR-125 over Otay Mesa Road, providing for the first time direct access from SR-125 to both State Route 905 (SR-905) and the under-construction State Route 11 (SR-11). Currently, vehicles must use circuitous and congested local roads to access SR-125.
The work is part of the SR-905/SR-125/SR-11 Northbound Connectors Project, which is an important component of the border infrastructure system that will help ease border congestion and facilitate goods movement between the United States and Mexico. More information on the project is available on the Caltrans website at www.dot.ca.gov/d11/projects.
