Major Traffic Switch on Imperial County Interstate 8 Pavement Project
EL CENTRO, Calif. – According to Caltrans, motorists traveling westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) through Imperial County will be shifted to Evan Hewes Highway on Wednesday as pavement construction continues on the I-8 Update Project.
The traffic shift will occur on I-8 just west of Gordons Well and continue until just past State Route 98. Pavement improvements have been made on Evan Hewes Highway in preparation for its use as a detour route. There will be no direct access to the Brock Research Center exit; signs are posted to alert motorists to the detour route.
Residents and visitors are urged to plan ahead for any potential delays due to the construction.
The I-8 Update is a multi-year project that will construct 48 miles of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement and replace asphalt shoulders. The project, to be constructed in five segments, will provide a smoother ride and significantly extend the life expectancy of the roadway. Completion of the project is expected in 2019.
More information about the I-8 Update Project can be found at: www.dot.ca.gov/d11/projects/.
