SR 99 - Livingston Median Widening
Phase 1: Livingston Southbound Median Widening Project: The Livingston Southbound Median Widening Project consists of the construction of one freeway lane within the median in the southbound direction on SR-99, beginning just north of the Merced/Stanislaus County line and ending just south of Hammatt Avenue, in Merced County.
Phase 2: Livingston Northbound Median Widening Project: The Livingston Northbound Median Widening Project consists of the construction of one freeway lane within the median in the northbound direction on SR-99, beginning just south of Hammatt Avenue and ending just north of the Merced/Stanislaus County line, in Merced County. Both north and south phases of the project will be “shovel-ready” by January 2018 so that they can move to construction when funding is available.
The need for the project is to address freeway capacity restrictions within the study limits, which is anticipated to reach or exceed existing capacity on or before the year 2030. Additionally, since the freeway on either end of the project is already widened to three lanes in each direction, this section of freeway is not consistent with the route concept/development and it is a bottleneck for freeway users. Thus, the purpose of the project is to add capacity to SR-99 by adding an additional lane within the median.
The total project cost for both the southbound and northbound phases is estimated at $74 and are funded through the design phase with the Interregional Transportation Improvement Program under the 2014 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Further funding is needed for construction, thus an additional allocation will be requested in the future STIP.
