State Route 108 (SR-108)/SR-120 Stanislaus/Tuolumne Paving Project
This project will apply a 2-inch thick layer of Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt (RHMA) concrete to existing lanes, shoulders, and pull-outs on 34 miles of SR-108 and SR-120 in Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. Scheduled to start in spring 2018 and be completed in late 2019, this project is intended to extend the service life of the pavement by five to seven years.
Heavily distressed pavement locations on travelled lanes will be repaired by grinding and applying Hot Mix Asphalt prior to the RHMA overlay. Dikes (used to channel water from the roadway to a drain), as well as metal-beam guard railing and end treatments will be upgraded to current standards. Drainage grates will be upgraded with bicycle friendly grates, as needed, and several culverts will also be replaced.
The project will improve SR-120 from Lancaster Road in Stanislaus County to the Moccasin Creek Bridge in Tuolumne County, a distance of 31 miles. It also will improve SR-108 in Tuolumne County, from the SR-108/120 junction to Montezuma Road (three miles). It includes striping, and the existing center-line and shoulder rumble strips will be replaced. Faded and damaged signs will be replaced.
The purpose is to preserve and extend the life of the existing pavement, and to improve the ride for this section of road.
The total project cost is estimated at $35.4 million and it is programmed in the State Highway Operation and Protection Program.
