Retirees Can Bounce Back!

By Colin Kenyon

Boomerang, State of California Retirees Job Connection, is a new online job matching service that links retiring state employees with state offices that need experienced temporary help.

Thinking of retiring, but still want a part-time job?

boomerangBoomerang is a new recruitment program for retiring state employees who are looking to work in temporary or part-time positions. Simply go to the Boomerang Web site and create an account. List your skills, education, last job classification and preferences. This information will be accessed by supervisors in all state departments to fill vacant positions.

You may be eligible to return in a different classification; check with a Human Resources analyst for jobs you could fill as a retired annuitant. Retired annuitants, who work part time, are allowed to report a maximum of 960 hours in each fiscal year.

More information concerning retired annuitants and the Boomerang program can be found in the FAQs section on the Boomerang Web site.

Looking to Hire a Retired Annuitant?

Hiring supervisors can use Boomerang’s on-line job matching service to search for candidates based on job classifications, skills, employment histories, and employment goals. The online database allows supervisors to screen applicants based on specific qualifications and directly contact selected retirees.

This program is a great way to fill a temporary need with experienced employees, and the hiring process is quick and easy. Once you identify the need for a retired annuitant, contact your Human Resources analyst. Analysts can provide detailed instructions to guide you through the hiring process.

If you would like a more detailed description of how Caltrans will be using this new recruitment program, please visit the Division of Human Resources’ Web site or contact Colin Kenyon at 916-227-5196 or colin_kenyon@dot.ca.gov.
